Why are you doing this?
The Women Build team recently completed construction of their 12th home in Bridgeport and just begun working on the 13th. A house costs about $150,000 to build and we hope to raise at least $50,000 towards through this event.
Do I have to know anything about construction to do this?
No, we will teach you everything you need to know in the first hour of the event.
Is there an age restriction for participants?
It is the policy of Habitat CFC that individuals under the age of 16 may not participate in a Habitat build. For the purposes of this event, individuals who are 16 and 17 years of age may participate with permission by a parent or guardian. See the Participant Waiver of Release and Liability for more information, or contact Eileen Bakos.
Are there prizes?
Of course! Teams will have the opportunity win prizes for best outfits, the most money raised, most creative team name, and the winning team will receive the “Bedazzled Hammer.”
What should I wear?
We encourage all teams to be creative and have fun with team uniforms as you probably won’t be working up a sweat (tutus, bandanas, and hats have been sighted at previous events). Each participant will also get the official She Nailed It! t-shirt.
I can’t think up a fun name for my team – any suggestions?
If you have a corporate sponsor helping with the $500 donation, you may want to add their name into the mix. Our pals in Lehigh Valley, who have held a similar event, saw team names such as The Polished Nails, One Hit Wonders, Hammers for Hope and Galvanized Gals.
What does it cost to be on a team?
Each team of four must raise a minimum of $500 in order to compete. One way to accomplish this is to have a company sponsor your team. If you don’t have a corporate sponsor, we encourage participants to take advantage of their personal and team web pages (available once you’ve registered online) as well as the Fundraising Guide.
What if my team doesn’t raise $500?
If you’re having trouble raising the money, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. The deadline to submit your team’s donation is one day prior to the event, but we can’t guarantee a solution in that time. Therefore, we recommend you notify us of any issues at least 10 days in advance. Contact Eileen Bakos for assistance.
What does it cost to come as a spectator?
Spectators can purchase tickets online for $25 until May 10, 2017. Spectator tickets purchased at the door are $35 each. Team members are covered by their minimum donation, and sponsors receive complimentary tickets according to their Sponsorship Level.
Will there be food at the event?
Yes! Subs and snacks, provided by Garden Catering, as well as desserts, sodas, beer and wine are included in the price of admission. As a precaution, however, participating teams will be asked to hold off on the alcoholic beverages until after they compete.
