CONSTRUCTION is our most popular volunteer opportunity.

WHO?

We welcome people age 16 or older with all types of skill levels, from none to tradesperson!  We have staff Project Managers and our beloved Volunteer Task Leaders and Core Volunteers on site to lead and teach unskilled volunteers.

Volunteers the ages of 16 and 17 must volunteer with a chaperone who is 21 years or older.  We require a 4:1 ratio of youth to chaperones.

WHAT?

We build affordable housing that we sell to hard-working, low income, qualified families at a zero-percent interest mortgage.  For information on Habitat homeownership please see Apply for a Home.

WHEN?

We meet at 8:15 AM and build until 3:30/4:00.  We break around noon for lunch, which you can bring with you to eat on site or at our warehouse or you may go to a local diner or restaurant.  Groups will sometimes order food to be delivered to the site or warehouse.

WHERE?

We ALWAYS meet at our warehouse in the morning:

1542 Barnum Ave. Bridgeport, CT 06610

Once everyone has arrived (no later than 8:30 please!) we give a short orientation on Habitat.  Then we assign tasks and volunteers head to the sites.  Please be sure you have transportation.

WHY?

Take a day to volunteer with us, work with our staff and future homeowners alongside other volunteers from various walks of life, and you’ll find out why we do this!

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Please choose the volunteer type that best describes you:

Individual

Corporate Group

Non-Corporate Group

Mandated Community Service Profile

All construction volunteers are asked to review the FAQ form prior to arrival on site.

Click here if you would like step-by-step instructions regarding construction tasks performed on site.
