Final Steps
After a family completes 250 hours of sweat equity they
will be offered the next available house that is
suitable for the size and composition of their family.
Then they will work the remainder of the 250 hours
working on their own home.
There are several workshops including Finance 1 and 2,
Pre-closing Workshop, Home
Safety and Neighborhood Security, Predatory Lending, and
Conflict Resolution given by the Mentoring Committee that future homeowners must attend
before becoming homeowners. When a home is available and
accepted by the family, they will be assigned a mentor
from the Mentoring Committee who will help with the
details of becoming homeowners. Most of
our houses are on the East Side and in the East End of
Bridgeport, but we also build in the surrounding
communities.
