VOLUNTEER SERVICES MANAGER

Classification: Full Time Exempt

 POSITION DESCRIPTION

Determine and fulfill volunteer needs of Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County.  Volunteer coordination includes but not limited to: determining needs, recruiting, orienting, training, scheduling, obtaining feedback from volunteers, and recognizing volunteers. 

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This is one of the most visible and public positions at Habitat.  As such, this person must work with an understanding that volunteer management and fund raising go hand in hand.  Together, they are “resource development” for Habitat.
  • Work with Development staff to define and implement coordinated resource development strategies (donors + volunteers)
  • Recruit volunteers for construction sites, office functions, the ReStore and special events.
  • Cultivate and retain existing volunteers.  Identify sources of new volunteers.
  • Respond promptly to volunteer inquiries and obtain feedback on a proactive basis.
  • Send orientation/informational notices to all new volunteers and groups in advance.
  • Work with staff and others to insure that volunteers are properly oriented, supported and trained.
  • Grow the pool of skilled and semi-skilled volunteers, both core/regular and on-call
  • Schedule volunteer groups and individuals. 
  • Develop volunteer handbook and information packets.
  • Maintain database of volunteers and organizational contacts including skills and areas of interest.

  • Acknowledge individual and group volunteers.

  • Coordinate morning openings at the warehouse.  Saturday is usually the largest turnout.

  • Greet and orient out of town groups staying at Golden Hill UMC or St. Charles Church.

  • Train, supervise and support any supporting staff, e.g., Volunteer Coordinator Associate and any community or project volunteer coordinators.

  • Apply for AmeriCorps NCCC and Direct teams and be the contact person when these teams are working with the affiliate.

  • Help the Family Services department orient future homeowner partners to the volunteer, sweat equity process.

  • Help prepare and fulfill the strategic and annual operating plan

  • Help prepare and work within budget.

  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

·          College degree preferred

·          Excellent and demonstrated people skills

·          Demonstrated ability to be flexible, supportive and a strong team participant in a work environment

·          Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Raisers Edge

·          Clear communicator

·          Understand and promote Habitat for Humanity philosophy and model

·          Ability to speak comfortably in public before large and small groups

 MINIMAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

·          A respect and passion for the mission of Habitat

·          A willingness to learn and work hard

·          Accurate and excellent writing, oral, and computer skills

·          Pleasant and knowledgeable phone presence

·          Ability to multi-task and work independently

·          Ability to work well with others

·          Ability to provide own transportation to various work sites in the Bridgeport area.

·          Normal work week is Tuesday – Saturday.  In order to meet out of state groups, occasionally a few hours may be   required on a Sunday or an evening.  Comp time is provided when flexibility is required.
