Habitat for Humanity Coastal Fairfield County builds communities one family at a time.
Habitat CFC has a 25 year, proven, award winning, track record. We have built more than 150 homes and undertaken 10 major rehabs — providing over 700 family members with the decent homes they worked for and deserved.
Habitat’s investment of seed capital has helped to stabilize and turn around entire neighborhoods. We are a contractor, mortgage banker, real estate developer, social services provider bringing together people of all walks of life who might never otherwise connect — building community at an entirely different level.
Give us your support….you’ll earn dividends for years to come.
A gift to Habitat CFC is an investment with a guaranteed return!
An investment with a guaranteed return? Too good to be true? Well, not when your investment is a gift to Habitat CFC. Here’s why;
Everyone in your community wins when Habitat CFC develops and sells affordable housing to qualified families – families with a need, who invest sweat equity in their home, and demonstrate the ability to pay a 0%, 30 year mortgage for their new home. Owned affordable houses, occupied by working families, create stability in lives and neighborhoods. Stability produces confidence and happiness for Habitat families that help build and, then buy their own home. It’s infectious and uplifting for the whole community.
• Habitat CFC homeowners have added over $500,000 to Fairfield County annual real estate tax rolls.
• Habitat’s efforts in Bridgeport have contributed to a revitalization of Bridgeport’s “east side”, stimulating investment from developers and other not-for profit organizations
• Habitat CFC’s project in Stamford is transforming a virtual garbage dump into safe, green homes for 8 deserving and qualified families. Habitat homes are not a gift to the families. They are an earned, gentle hand in the right direction.
• Home ownership builds successful children; compared to children of renters ( of the same age, race, income, etc) a national independent study showed the following:
- are 25% more likely to graduate from high school
- are 116% more likely to graduate from college
- are 20% less likely to become teenage mothers
- have 9% higher math and 7% higher reading proficiency scores
• Habitat families become great citizens and neighbors. The same survey suggests that homeowners; compared to renters (equalized for age, race, income, etc.);
- are 28% more likely to repair or improve their homes
- are 10% more likely to report that they have worked to solve local problems
- are 15% more likely to vote
• Further supporting the above, a 2009 face-to-face survey of 63 Habitat CFC homeowners by Sacred Heart University indicated that:
- the physical health of their children had improved — 67% of respondents
- children’s grades in school had improved — 65% of respondents
- parent involvement in their children’s school activities increased — 61% of respondents
- relationships within their family had strengthened — 82% of respondents
- they feel better off financially – 56% of respondents
- they voted in the last presidential election – 80% of respondents
Your gift to Habitat CFC goes to work in your own back yard.
Habitat CFC is an independent organization that must develop all of its own funding. More than 98% of every dollar you donate stays right here in Coastal Fairfield County, from Stratford to Greenwich. The rest goes to support Habitat International in return for their support, and to help fund their efforts in the U.S. and internationally – from the Gulf Region, to Haiti and Sri Lanka.
Give us your support….. and you’ll “earn dividends” for years to come!
Habitat CFC occasionally extends its reach to those in special need.
Following the disaster of Hurricane Katrina, Habitat CFC became involved in a special mission to Gulf Coast Region. Over the course of three years from 2005 through 2007, 165 Habitat CFC volunteers helped to build 16 homes in the region, two of which were fully sponsored by habitat CFC donors.
